Children whose mothers are in prison miss countless holidays, milestones, and everyday moments—times when they often feel the most alone. When MATCH helps them stay connected during these special occasions, it strengthens their bond with their mothers and creates memories that carry them through the ordinary days in between.
WINTER CELEBRATION
Each December, MATCH hosts a joyful holiday celebration for MATCH moms, their children, and the children’s caregivers. Families gather around the table to share a warm meal, laughter, and a sense of belonging. MATCH moms especially treasure the chance to proudly introduce their children to friends who have walked beside them during their incarceration. Photos with Santa and a bag filled with gifts for every child add to the magic of the evening.
MATCH is deeply grateful to the food vendors of the Golden Corral Corporation for generously providing the meal, and to Edenton Street United Methodist Church for sponsoring an Angel Tree that ensures every child receives a meaningful gift.
BIRTHDAYS
A child’s birthday is one of the most powerful opportunities for a mother to show her love. Through MATCH’s “Birthday Closet,” stocked with donated gifts for all ages, moms can choose a present that reflects their child’s personality and interests. They can give the gift during a MATCH visit or have it mailed home to arrive right on their child’s special day. MATCH also provides birthday decorations and party supplies so families can celebrate with joy and intention.
BACK TO SCHOOL
Many of us remember the pride of starting school with fresh supplies—new crayons, crisp notebooks, and sharpened pencils. MATCH moms cannot go shopping themselves, but when they give their children a bag of donated school supplies, they send a powerful message: your education matters, and I am cheering for you every day. These moments help children feel seen, supported, and connected to their mothers’ hopes for their future.
MOTHER’S DAY DINNER
MATCH moms make a profound commitment to their children when they join the program. Although their children cannot celebrate with them in person, MATCH honors these mothers each May with a special dinner, entertainment, and a heartfelt gift. The evening is a reminder that their love, effort, and dedication are recognized. MATCH is grateful to all who donate food, time, and talent to make this celebration meaningful.
