ABOUT

Serving time in prison is one of the most traumatic periods in a person’s life … and, it can become one of the most transformational. Often, it is both. At its best, it can be time that a woman begins to heal the wounds of the past and ready herself for a return to her family and community. However, women are likely to struggle with health issues, substance use, lack of adequate education and job skills, limited housing options, and unreliable transportation as they reenter society.

Even more, they are faced with the collateral consequences of incarceration, the over 40,000 legal and regulatory restrictions that limit or prohibit people convicted of crimes from accessing employment, business and occupational licensing, housing, voting, education, and other rights, benefits, and opportunities … even after paying their debt to society.

Arise Collective walks alongside women as they discover their worth, improve their well-being, and successfully navigate life after incarceration. In short, learning to thrive, not just survive, after prison.
