Episode 1: HERstory

Trip down memory lane with us as we trace our rich history. From the hiring of the first female chaplain in the state of North Carolina in 1980, to showcasing the varied talents and contributions of our Executive Directors and Chaplains over the years, learn how everything has always centered around the women. Featuring A Cause for Celebration Event Co-Chairs and IPMW Board Members Bernadine Anthony and Dr. Doris Braswell Bullock, Oral Historian Cathia Friou, and Executive Director Jennifer C. Jackson, this evening will feature highlights and milestones from IPMW’s 40 years, and showcase how they have intersected with carceral trends in the broader society.

From Duke Divinity University Intern to Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women Board Member, Rev. Bernadine Anthony is a Chaplain. She is also a gifted bridge builder who finds joy in connecting with people, connecting people to people and connecting people to opportunities. She resides in Raleigh near her mother and family. Rev. Anthony is honored to serve the many women associated with IPMW and is grateful to everyone who has provided support for this extraordinary event and to the organization overall.

Cathia Friou, a writer and Documentary Studies student at Duke, is the Oral Historian for IPMW’s 40th Anniversary celebration. As someone who is endlessly fascinated with people, relationships, and systems, she is grateful to have been an informal part of the organization for the last nine months. Cathia lives in Charlotte with her significant other, Rob, and is the proud mama of two twenty-something daughters, Julia and Claire, who reside in NYC.
