TRANSITION EDUCATION SERVICES

Currently on hold due to the pandemic, JobStart is a premier 16-week transitional education program designed to help women reunite with their families and transition into the community upon their release. Created by the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections in 2001 as a prison-to-work program, participants learn about concrete life and job skills including time and money management, social and self-development, decision-making, anger management, emotional regulation, training, and education options. Offered in partnership with the Department, Wake Technical College, First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, and the community at large, Arise Collective oversees program coordination, the mentor component of the program, and instruction for JobStart Fridays.

NOTE: JobStart 39 was the last class offered before the prison closed in March 2020, due to the pandemic.
