Originally from Belize, Chalyne immigrated to the United States and spent several years in New York, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She later settled in North Carolina, which she has proudly called home for the past six years.
After joining Teach For America, she spent three years as a kindergarten teacher. Although she loved working with young learners, she felt a deeper calling to serve her community in a broader capacity.
This led her to pursue a master’s degree in Human Development and Family Science at East Carolina University, as well as certification as a Family Life Educator. During her graduate studies, Chalyne developed a strong passion for supporting the incarcerated population of Pitt County. She provided education and resources designed to empower individuals and foster personal growth. Through her work with a nonprofit organization, she continued her commitment to promoting the well-being of individuals and families by applying a trauma‑informed lens to cultivate resilience, healing, and sustainable growth.
When she is not working, Chalyne spends her time with the Junior League of Raleigh, making a meaningful impact in the community through volunteering and training. You can also find her tending to her garden, reading, thrifting, and baking.
